The International Civil Aviation Organizxation (ICAO) has already advised airline passengers not to put their mods, cartomizers and other materials used in vaping inside their checked baggage. This rule was implemented after reports of batteries and chargers exploding inside the passenger’s luggage.
ICAO, which sets guidelines and airline safety standards for 191 member states, made the decision based on the potential fire hazard of exploding batteries.
Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, president of the ICAO Council is quoted saying “Several incidents have been reported involving e-cigarette heating elements being accidentally activated and resulting in fires in checked baggage.”
And, airlines aren’t the only ones banning vaping in their planes. In the United Kingdom, vaping and vaping materials are not allowed in trains and stations that are part of the Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) franchise.
Train operator Southern is to ban the use of electronic cigarettes and other electronic vaping devices from its trains and stations as of next month.
The company, which runs services in Hastings, Bexhill, Rye and Eastbourne, becomes part of the Govia Thameslink Railway franchise in July and says the ban falls in line with GTR policy.
A spokesperson for Southern said: “From Sunday July 26, electronic cigarettes and other electronic ‘vaping’ devices will no longer be permitted on Southern and Gatwick Express trains and at Southern stations.”
However, vapers are free to bring their vaping gear inside their handbags or carry-alls.
It should be pointed out that the new ban does not prevent vapers from transporting their vaping products, e-liquids and accessories. The ICAO is merely prohibiting vapers from checking them into their luggage. It requires passengers to carry them onboard in the cabin so that the device can easily be accessed in the event that problems were to occur. The new regulation will also prohibit a passenger from charging their vaping device in flight and also bans its use while in the cabin.
It’s also ill-advised for vapers to blow clouds of vapor inside the plane or while they’re in the toilet. There’s a possibility that other passengers, flight attendants, and pilots will misinterpret what you’re doing in the can and think there’s a fire inside the plane.
Meanwhile, vaping is not allowed in private vehicles when there are minors riding with adults. Likewise, vaping is prohibited on Greyhound buses.
